If you're not sure if paragliding is the sport for you and you would just like to try it, then this is the answer.
As its name suggests, the Taster Day is designed to give you an introduction to the sport of paragliding.
The Taster Day is the first day of the EP course and the price includes one day's BHPA membership (£10.00).
Pay as little as £140.00 per person.
Pay for a friend and save £40.00, pay for two friends and save £90.00 or pay for three friends and save £160.00 - please call us to get this discount.
The day will include:
- Welcome and briefing session.
- Safety procedures.
- Introduction to the equipment and an explanation of how it all works.
- How to inspect all the equipment prior to flying (pre-flight and safety checks).
- How to take off, fly the paraglider and land it again safely.
- The fee includes the hire of all flying equipment, one day's membership of the BHPA and transport to and from our private flying sites.
You will find yourself initially flying just a few feet above the ground, but as the day progresses, you'll get higher and higher. Your instructor will only let you progress as fast as he or she thinks is safe (and you're happy with) and by early to mid-afternoon you should be flying the paraglider (solo) up to as high as 150 feet (50 metres) above the ground.
IMPORTANT: We use a winch launch system on a private airfield which means that you will achieve so much more than you possibly could with hill training (this is why we changed). You'll get to fly much higher and for longer - the best bit of all is that you won't have to climb back up the hill between flights (a real struggle with a glider on your back). You will also be the only person in the air - not sharing a crowded site with thirty other pilots like a lot of schools will expect you to.
We should be able to get you flying solo within a couple of hours of arrival at the airfield. Teaching in a hill teaching environment as we used to; wouldn't see you flying until right at the end of the day and that was more often than not only a few feet above the ground that only lasted a few seconds. The difference between what you can achieve in one day on a hill compared to a winch is staggering - see our 'Latest News' section for full details.
Remember this is an introduction, not a complete course in how to fly. To get any higher than 150 feet (up to 500 feet on your second day), you will need to enrol on an EP course to gain further training.
Please note: A £10.00 'one day' membership to the BHPA is included in the price of your Taster Day. To be able to move on from here and undertake EP training you will need to join the BHPA as either a training member or a full member. The cost for this is currently £45.00 for a three month training membership or £89.00 for full annual membership (you'll need this if you intend moving on to CP training).
When you join the BHPA for the first time, an additional £15 Joining Fee must be paid. The Joining Fee does not apply to membership renewals where membership has been continuous. For full details click here.
